Janette has extensive experience of delivering vocal workshops to students in schools and in supporting schools to develop the singing leadership skills of adults in school (class teachers, teaching & midday assistants) and students. 

 

 

Janette was recently appointed as  the Sing Up Network Provider for the local education authorities of Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Her involvement in the national Sing Up initiative in Essex has included four major projects from 2008-2011. Please see the Sing Up page for more detail.

Janette has a BMus (Hons) from Sheffield University and is a qualified teacher with a PGCE from Goldsmiths'. She has extensive experience of working in music education in all phases, and is an experienced choral workshop leader with children, young people and adults. Janette has written many songs for use in schools, music for a pantomime, a full-length musical and several cantatas.

 

Her career as a choral conductor spans twenty years. Janette has an MA in Choral Education from Roehampton University and has sucessfully completed training in the Estill Voice Training System Levels one and two.

 

Janette is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

 

 

Janette is a practitioner member of the abcd Council and has devised two Continuing Professional Development (CPD)  programmes for them.

 

Leading from the Front (2007-8) involved teachers and over 2000 children in Essex schools in a series of workshops and mentoring sessions designed to help teachers to become more confident about leading singing in their schools.  Janette led a session about the project at the 2008  abcd Annual Convention in Lincoln and wrote an article that was featured in the Sing Up magazine (September 2008).

 

In 2011  Janette will lead the Foundation Level Conductor Training course that she has devised in Essex. It has been designed to help teachers and other adults leading singing in schools to understand the fundamentals of choral leadership, particularly vocal modelling and physical gesture to support singing and the development of musicianship in others.
