What EMS offers
Essex Music Services is the Music Service for Essex County Council.
EMS offers vocal and instrumental tuition in schools, in Music Schools and through a world music workshops, instrumental taster sessions (known as zoos) and a comprehensive range of high quality vocal and instrumental ensemble provision.

Vocal and Choral Provision
In addition to the provision of singing tuition in schools and Music Schools, EMS offers vocal workshops in schools, CPD opportunities, and a wide range of vocal ensemble opportunities, covering 5 to 21 year olds.
During the last five years Janette has delivered singing workshops during term time to over 15,000 young people in Essex schools. Workshops can be designed to help to demonstrate repertoire, singing leadership skills and to address specific concerns or areas for development with the music co-ordinator, class teachers and teaching assistants.

Sing Up

Janette led CPD training at the Cambridge UniversityFaculty of Education for secondary school music teachers on Sing Up and the implications for secondary school teachers.
Janette has devised and led workshops under the Sing Up umbrella in Essex and Norfolk . Recently these have involved working wth staff at Northlands Infant School in Pitsea and Sandon secondary school near Chelmsford.

2009-10 Academic Year
There are plans for courses in developing conducting skills which will run as a result of EMS close working relationship with the Association of British Choral Directors (abcd) - a Sing Up flagship organisation.
2008-9 Academic Year
July 2nd Janette led a CPD training at the Cambridge UniversityFaculty of Education for secondary school music teachers on Sing Up and the implications for secondary school teachers.
June 30th Janette was part of the Cathedral Outreach Project team that delivered half a day's CPD to teachers, looking at action songs and repertoire for use in schools during the autumn term.
June 1st As part of the Essex Music Services Primary Music Conference Janette led a whole group session on using singing to help to develop musical concepts and understanding and a second smaller group one on leading action songs.
March 24th Using Sing Up funding Janette organised a Singing Conference focusing on Vocal Health and Vocal Development. This event was free for all teachers and peripatetic teachers from the Music Service. Speakers for the day were Peter Hunt and Anne-Marie Speed.
March 23rd Janette was part of the Cathedral Outreach Project team that delivered a day's CPD to teachers as part of the preparation for the summer
term workshops.
February 26th After delivering workshops to classes at Northlands Infants School, Janette led a twlighlight CPD session to teachers.
November 25th 2008 Janette was part of the Cathedral Outreach Project team that delivered a day's CPD to teachers as part of the preparation for the spring term workshops.
October 6th 2008 As part of their on-going commitment to singing workshops for students and CPD for staff, Holland Park Primary School in Clacton asked Janette to deliver a twilight CPd session for teachers and teaching assistants.
September 30th 2008 Following two whole day's of singing workshops with classes from Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Janette delivered a twilight CPD session to staff at Oakfield Primary School in Wickford.
Sandon School Young Singing Leader (YSL) Training
Using funding from Sing Up Janette has been part of the two-person team delivering on-going singing leadership training to students in years 9, 10 and 11. The YSLs (Young Singing Leaders) have been trained to deliver weekly singing sessions to classes in Year 7 during an extended registration period. There are plans for them to go out into feeder primary schools in the summer term to work with classes in Years 5 & 6.
